CFP Certification Education Program
FPSB India has introduced a new education and credentialing pathway to CFP certification to facilitate more structured learning and recognition opportunities for candidates for CFP certification in India.
Candidates for CFP certification can complete their education requirement through the specialist education courses provided by FPSB India. The following are the exam modules:
Financial Planning Standards Board India recognizes the need for an accelerated pathway to test the competency of certain professionals in financial services who have specified qualifications along with relevant experience. Such individuals, upon verification of their credentials, shall be exempted from writing three component level Specialist exams. They shall be inducted in the FPSB® Integrated Financial Planning course, which consist of two-stages of evaluation i.e.
- Financial Plan Assessment and
- CFP® Exam
To be eligible to undertake the course through Challenge Pathway the candidates should have:
- Passed at least one of the approved Educational Qualifications / Professional Certification listed below and
- Have minimum 3 years’ work experience

Earn the CFPCM CERTIFICATION
FPSB India. has restructured the content of the education requirement for CFP certification in India into three specialist education courses (Investment Planning Specialist; Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist; Risk and Estate Planning Specialist) and Integrated Financial Planning Course. Qualified students may complete their training under Challenge Status Program too. Upon completing all four education courses and related exams, and meeting FPSB India’s CFP exam and experience requirements, individuals can be recognized as a Certified Financial Planner® professional in India.
Regular Pathway
Students who are at least age 18 and have completed HSC/12th (Std XII/HSC) may register for
the program. Though the Certification can be provided only after you complete
your Graduation.
Challenge Status Pathway
To be eligible to undertake the course through Challenge Pathway the candidates should be :
- A proficient person with minimum Three(3) years of work experience in Finance Industry
- Past CFP professionals (lapsed certification beyond 5 years from application date)
- SEBI Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) with active license
- CFP professionals in good standing with one of the Affiliate bodies of FPSB Ltd.
- Past candidates who had passed CFP exam more than 5 years before application date
- Already registered Regular Pathway candidates who deem themselves eligible as per laid down criteria for Challenge Pathway
Regular Pathway
Students appearing for FPSB® Investment Planning Specialist, FPSB® Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist ,FPSB® Risk and Estate Planning Specialist examinations, a 2-hour, 75 multiple-choice question, computer-based test will be conducted. From date of enrollment with FPSB India, students have three years to complete the education course and pass the exam. The student must be verified to have completed the education requirement (through one of the three modes above) to be eligible to take the exam. After clearing all 3 examinations, you to have to construct a Financial Plan. After Financial plan Approval, you have to appear for the last CFP examination, which is Integrated Financial Planning Course . CFP® Exam will be a scenario based 3 hour MCQ Paper with 50 questions.
Challenge Status Pathway
Students appearing under this program is required to develop a financial plan on a given case study. The successful evaluation of the financial plan makes a candidate eligible to sit for the CFP® exam. CFP® Exam will be a scenario based 3 hour MCQ Paper with 50 questions.
Students are required to have at least three years unsupervised or one year supervised relevant experience in this field.

Pathway to CFPCM CERTIFICATION
Register with FPSB India and Purchase Course Material
Students are required to register with FPSB India. Every student who has registered with FPSB India has to purchase the study material. This is your first step towards CFP Certification. Every student is required to clear all four modules.
- Self-Paced Education Route : If you have enrolled under this route, you can study for your certification exam as per your own schedule and study from FPSB India online learning portal.
- Instructor-Led Education Route : Under this route, after you register with FPSB India and purchase the FPSB India. online learning materials, you will enroll with an FPSB India. Authorized Education Provider (in-person and/or online courses available), and complete your coursework in ~8-12 weeks (depending on course content and frequency)
FPSB India will have a total of four certification exams in India (matching the four specialist education courses), leading to CFP certification in India. It is mandatory for the students to clear each of these modules in order to be eligible for CFP Certification.

To obtain certification, candidates complete FPSB India’s ethics course, and agree to uphold and abide by the FPSB India Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, which sets forth requirements for ethical behavior and professional judgment. Once the candidate has completed this ethics course for any one of the specialist track certifications, he or she will not need to complete the course for additional track certifications on the pathway to CFP certification.
By completing the steps above, and applying for FPSB India certification, successful candidates can be recognized by employers, clients and the public as an FPSB® Investment Planning Specialist, FPSB® Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist or FPSB® Risk and Estate Planning Specialist.

Each of FPSB India’s certifications has a continuing professional development (CPD) requirement, which is five hours of CPD per year for each of the specialist certifications or 15 hours per year for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification. In addition to offering our own CPD programs, FPSB India recognizes the programs being offered by various CPD providers in India.
